Gross Motor Skill GOAL – To Strengthen Neck Muscles and Prevent Head Flattening

Many babies are born with a head-turning preference toward one side that puts them at a much higher risk of developing head flattening concern known as plagiocephaly.

Be diligent about placing interesting things to look at on his or her nondominant side to encourage turning the head both ways.

Materials Needed: black and white cards (located here), tape

Activity: Turn To See!

Tape black and white cards in various places around the activity gym or close to where your little one is safely positioned. The contrasting colors will encourage the baby to turn his or her head.

Tip: Remember, the vision of a newborn is best between 8-12 inches from their eyes.
